The Anson County Partnership for Children's annual Barn Blast

The Anson County Partnership for Children's annual Barn Blast will be held from 6:00 PM to midnight in the Ingram Room at South Piedmont Community College's Lockhart-Taylor Center. This fund raising event for children's literacy features dinner, dancing, drinks, silent and live auctions and lots of fun. Tickets are $35.00 until January 13, 2012, when the price will increase to $45.00. Reserved tables for eight guests are available for $300.00 per table. All profits fro the Barn Blast are used for children's literacy activities in Anson County including Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, Motheread, Raising a Reader Book Bag Program and Books for Kids book distributions. For tickets, please call or come by the Anson County Partnership for Children.

The TAMS are coming to the newly renovated, historic Ansonia Theatre in Wadesboro. A perfect way to celebrate the Valelntine weekend. The TAMS. The name is synonymous with Beach Music and all that is Shag. There will be dancing in the aisles when RL Smith and The Original Tams sing such hits as "I've Been Hurt, What Kind of Fool, and Hey Girl Don't Bother Me". They will also introduce some of their newer works. The show is being sponsored by Super Be Productions and the Anson County Arts Council (ACAC). Doors will open at 6:30 PM and the show will start at 7:00 PM. Tickets (reserved seating only) are $25.00. The box office, located at the Anson County Arts Council building right next to the Ansonia Theatre, will be open from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday thru Thrusday.

“Back Porch Stories” will be held at the Ansonia Theatre beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Free Program will feature storyteller Gary Carden recounting Appalachian and Cherokee folktales. Carden will be followed by Cynthia Moore Brown telling ghost stories of the Piedmont; Ramona Big Eagle bringing American Indian stories; and Dorothy Morrison sharing stories of a Southern family. The program is sponsored by the Anson County Writers’ Club, South Piedmont Community College and the Hampton B. Allen Library with special assistance from the Anson County Arts Council. "Back Porch Stories" kicks off the fourth annual Carolinas Writers Conference on April 14 at SPCC’s Lockhart-Taylor Center in Wadesboro.

WAR BONDS: The Songs and Letters of World War II -- a musical journey through a war that redefined the world. This multi-media living history cabaret is interspersed with personal letters from the front and headline news of the period. Actual veterans stories create a sentimental journey back through the days when blackouts and rationing were a small sacrifice in order to obtain freedom. A time when Rosie the Riveter discovered she could take care of herself; a time when African-Americans, who were segregated at home, integrated abroad to became heros; and when a man's only wish was to be home for Christmas. WAR BONDS: The Songs and Letters of World War II explores the dark side of war and the strange juxtaposition of the light hearted, popular tunes of the time. Ticket prices to be announced.

The Anson County Cooperative Extension Center will hold the annual Ag Expo & Fair. This year's activities will be held at the Lockhart-Taylor Center of SPCC in Wadesboro. This fall, plan to visit the fair exhibits on display both Friday night and Saturday in the Ingram Room. Friday's offerings will begin at 6:00 pm with the annual Ag Fair being exhibited in lthe Ingram Room and the Youth Livestock Show in the parking area. Saturday will feature the same events coninuing at 9:00 am, with the addition of the South Atlantic Woodsmen's Association lumberjack sports competition in the afternoon. All events are free to the public.. Come out and join the fun.

5K Fun Run on the streets of Uptown Wadesboro, NC. UWI is teaming up with the National Alopecia Areata Foundation to bring the Tortoise & Hair to the streets of Wadesboro. This race has been organized not only to expose the beauty and business district of Uptown Wadesboro, but more importantly to raise funds and create awareness for alopecia areata. Alopecia areata is a misunderstood autoimmune disease which is a disease that causes hair loss. For more information visit the NAAF website at www.naaf.org. Reg. fee $20 ($30 day of event).

Pork of Chicken BBQ will be served from 11:00AM to 6:00PM at the National Guard Armory on High School Road in Wadesboro, tickets are $8.00. The annual Cow Pasture Bingo tickets are $10.00 each for a chance to win $1,000.
